SCRIP Program
The Good News Church scrip program, known as E.O.W.O.O.D. (Expanding Our Way Out of Debt) was created by Nelson and Jeri Van den Hoek in 1996 to help pay off our outstanding debt to the Reformed Church in America (RCA) for the addition we had added to our facility. In the first month the program made $594 in profit as a result of the people of Good News purchasing gift cards and certificates from E.O.W.O.O.D.
The church purchases these gift cards and certificates at a reduced rate from vendors and then sells them at full price. The profit that is made is then directed towards debt reduction or building expansion. Over the past 15 years the Good News scrip program has raised over $100,000!
Raise Money for Good News While Doing Your Every Day Shopping!
Did you know you can raise money for Good News while doing your everyday shopping? All you have to do is purchase gift cards from E.O.W.O.O.D to use at your favorite stores and restaurants and use them in place of cash, checks, or credit cards for purchases you were going to make anyway! Each card purchased carries an associated “contribution” of 2-15% or more.
Gift cards are available from over 300 national and local retailers. Groceries, clothing, dining out, home improvement, even gasoline can all be purchased with Scrip. An organization of 150 families easily spends between one and two million dollars a year on these purchases. If they do the majority of this shopping with Scrip, they can raise as much as $40,000 to $80,000 per year for our organization – without spending an additional penny!
